Hiding a Geocache

Groundspeak has released a YouTube video on the Basics of Hiding a Geocache.

Remember the golden rule as published on the website “Geocaching is just like real estate – location, location, location!”

On the way to and Adelaide caches

Does anyone have any caches that you can highly recommend to us as we are going back to SA for 3 weeks over Christmas.

We are driving and travelling through Wagga, Hay, Ouyen, Murray Bridge and onto Strathalbyn (where Rach’s parents live).

We are also going up to the Flinders Ranges, staying in Hawker where Dan’s parents own a caravan park.

As you know, travelling a few hundred kilometres to cache in a day is nothing to us! So any area in and around Adelaide would be greatly appreciated!

We do have good caching friends in Adelaide (Team Wibble) who have recommended quite a few but we were wondering if anyone could recommend a few? Especially in the Wagga area, although, with the flooding we don’t know what will still be there!

We hope everyone has a very Merry Cachemas and Happy New Year!

GSAK

Recently xpunkx who is one of the hosts of the Geocaching Podcast ran a Webinar on GSAK.

There is a video presentation that he had of the Webinar that you can buy.

The cost is $12 but it may be worth it to some people if you want to work out GSAK.

Rating Caches

Groundspeak announced today:

We will complete our first attempt at a rating system by the end of the month. In lieu of a generic (and IMO unhelpful) 1-5 star rating system we have decided to let people rate a percentage of their finds as their favorites.
This favorite count will then be displayed on the cache listing. The beta feature will initially be introduced to Premium Members but will eventually opened up to all users.
We will also be exploring other ways to identify the best caches to encourage quality. Quality of the game is one of the major themes for 2011.

This has been a major topic on the Groundspeak Forum Site. It sounds a bit like being able to Recommend Caches on the GCA website. Ironically Groundspeak has made a couple of the announcements in the past two days, coincidently opencaching.com launched. It seems that competition is the market place is very good. The website is owned by Garmin and they obviously see it as a big threat and have responded accordingly. This new site has an AWESOMENESS rating.

Interesting times ahead.

Photographs

Is anyone aware of a good photo sharing site that we could use.

I know that there are sites like Flickr but these require everyone to have an account to be able to contribute to the group.

Perhaps someone is aware of a site that would allow members to upload and share files for HAVOC events etc.

HAVOC at Barrington

HAVOC at Barrington GC2HA5Q was held over the past weekend.

8 teams attended on the weekend which was great considering the rain in the lead up to the event.

The purpose of the event was to try and find Frying Pan GCF1, which is the oldest cache in The Hunter.

The cache was found and I have uploaded at YouTude video of the cache is you are interested.
