A new online geocaching supply store has just launched in Australia – 101geo. They’ve got a professional looking website, and are stocking a great range of products, including all the usual travel bugs, geocoins, geo-achievement sets, etc as well as Groundspeak clothing, sneaky containers, and a variety of night caching products. Everything is held in stock, so no endless waiting for deliveries, which is nice. They’ve just been announced as Gold Sponsors of the Oz Mega Event in 2012, so great to see them supporting the local geocaching community.

Congratulations to Mike and Celeste who have now reached 1000 finds.
Well done on reaching this great milestone.
Plenty of Hunter teams now reaching this milestone.
Congratualtions to Big Matt and Shell on reaching 5000 finds.
Just think how many hours have gone into that 5000 finds.
With 5000 finds they are currently ranked 19 in Australia and 1700 in The World.
An amazing effort. Well done.
I recently came across this useful website that has been specifically designed for the iPhone.
The site is very useful as it uploads quickly in the field, with the basic details that you need.
It has good and easy search fields for quick reference.
Check it out at http://iphonecaching.appspot.com/
I have also added it to the links page for further reference.
Congratulations to gd___ on reaching 1000 finds on geocaching.com.
Well done on becoming a member of the HAVOC 1000 club.

I have a new Wherigo cache that I hope to get published this week. The cache is called ARTeFACTS and is at the Lake Macquarie Art Gallery, Booragul.
I would like to make The Hunter the capital of Wherigo caches in Australia. Currently there are 21 active Wherigo caches is Australia with 2 being by Big Matt in The Hunter.
A Wherigo requires quite a deal of effort to make and until now could only be played by Pocket PC and Garmin Oregon units. Now with smart phones taking off and apps on all these types of phones, it is well worth the effort as many more cachers are able to find them.
If anyone would has an idea and would like to make a Wherigo, I am more than willing to help.
From time to time a cache is hidden with the wrong coordinates.
This is particularly an issue for new hiders.
In the interest of helping out new hiders it would be useful for our members to list how they obtain their coordinates.
May sure you list what device you are using and the measures you take to make sure the coordinates are accurate.
I think we should run a WWFM here in the Hunter.
Let us know what you think about it.
Do you have any ideas of a place and some clever idea?
If we have interest we may organise another event later in the day after this one as a Meet and Greet for locals.
WWFM
WWFM – World Wide Flash Mobs – Thousands of geocachers at dozens of coordinated events all around the globe, gathering at the same time.
Sonny and Sandy of the PodCacher podcast came up with the WWFM idea after attending a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event. These caching events are intended to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.
Basic Requirements:
15 minutes
Take a group picture
Collect number of people attended for statistical purposes
Be creative and Have fun!
WWFM History:
Flash Mob I – May 2007 – almost 200 San Diego geocachers; 20 world-wide events
WWFM II – Nov 2007 – 4400 attendees at 83 events in 9 countries
WWFM III – May 2008 – almost 8000 attendees at 163 events in 15 countries
WWFM IV – Nov 2008 – 7400 people at 154 events in 20 countries
WWFM V – May 2009 – over 7000 people at 154 events in 20 countries
WWFM VI – Nov 2009 – almost 7000 people at 152 events in 21 countries
WWFM VII – May 2010 – almost 6000 people at 139 events in 19 countries
NEXT SCHEDULED WWFM: Saturday June 4, 2011 – WWFM VIII
Port Stephens is going to be invaded AGAIN! This time on the 9th April.
Hopefully many locals will get out and enjoy the event.
The last one was hosted by BIg Matt and Shell and was a great event. That event was actually the catalyst for HAVOC.
Check out the event page at Geocaching NSW – Port Stephens invasion
MADSTARS may need a hand with maintainence issues prior to the event so if you are willing to help keep an eye on this website in the lead up to the event.
