WWFM – Saturday 4 June 2011

I think we should run a WWFM here in the Hunter.
Let us know what you think about it.
Do you have any ideas of a place and some clever idea?

If we have interest we may organise another event later in the day after this one as a Meet and Greet for locals.

WWFM

WWFM – World Wide Flash Mobs – Thousands of geocachers at dozens of coordinated events all around the globe, gathering at the same time.

Sonny and Sandy of the PodCacher podcast came up with the WWFM idea after attending a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event. These caching events are intended to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.

Basic Requirements:
15 minutes
Take a group picture
Collect number of people attended for statistical purposes
Be creative and Have fun!

WWFM History:

WWFM II – Nov 2007 – 4400 attendees at 83 events in 9 countries
WWFM III – May 2008 – almost 8000 attendees at 163 events in 15 countries

Geocaching Podcasts

For the new cacher there are a number of geocaching podcasts that you may be interested in:

Geotalk contains news about geocaching in Australia, interviews with Australian geocachers, tips on finding geocaches, using your global positioning system (GPS) unit and staying safe while hiking in the bush or searching in the city.

Podcacher is Sonny and Sandy, a husband and wife geocaching team in Southern California who have created a podcast about geocaching. Podcasting is a way to listen to “radio-like” programs on an MP3 player. PodCacher began in July 2005 and has over 250 shows and counting!

From the beginning, we wanted to deliver high quality, family-friendly shows that would inform, inspire and entertain! We thought a podcast would be a good fit. Geocachers are adventurous, use computers, and are very mobile; also a good description for podcasters! So we designed a program that delivers news, tips and tricks, tools of the trade, caching stories, interviews, live audio events, and more!

The Geocaching Podcast is a American weekly audio show recorded live on Tuesday nights at 9:30 PM EST. We talk about all the latest news tips and tricks that have to do with Geocaching. The Podcast is hosted by XpunkX, Darrylw4, and Montu_Rider.

Cache-A-Maniacs Podcast. Each episode of the Cache-A-Maniacs features a candid, uncut, and irregular interview with a member of the Geocaching community. What do we mean by “candid, uncut, and irregular interviews?”

  • Candid: While guests are provided with a list of typical questions, the shows are unscripted, recorded live.
  • Uncut: While we might edit the shows to make them easier to listen or watch, the content of the interview will remain untouched.
  • Irregular: We’ll release usually one show each week but at least one show each month. Shows will very in length with many under 20 minutes, and some (though very rare) more than an hour.

Cachers of the Round Table is a monthly panel discussion about Geocaching topics brought to you by the hosts of Geocaching Podcasts.

There are also other podcasts that you may be interested in. Go to iTunes and search for geocaching.
